CODE CTF Competition

In November 2023, we participated in a CTF competition in Munich, organized by the CODE Research Institute (https://www.unibw.de/code) in collaboration with the Localos CTF team.At Viris, we encourage our employees to participate in high-quality CTF competitions to enhance their technical skills. You can read more about CTF competitions in our previous post here.

To participate in the main event, we had to qualify in online qualifiers held in October. With our achievement of 3rd place, we successfully secured a spot in the final event.

The final event took place on Friday, November 24, 2023, at 6 p.m. and concluded the next day at 12 p.m., which meant a staggering 18 hours of continuous competition! Yes, 18 hours of relentless hacking action! Diverse challenges kept us engaged throughout, presenting a real test of skills. We started off in the background, but around 2 a.m., we soared to the top position!

Throughout the event, we successfully tackled numerous tasks, although some competitors caught up with us by morning. In addition to conventional challenges, the organizers introduced intriguing tasks involving Wi-Fi, smartwatches, and virtual reality. The breakfast organized by the hosts at 7 a.m. was a welcome energy boost before the competition’s conclusion. Despite tiredness, engaging and challenging tasks kept us going. In the end, among the 25 teams participating in the final, we secured 4th place!

Sincere thanks to the organizers for their excellent event organization and hospitality. We can’t wait to see you again!
